Student of the Year

We are thrilled to announce our 2024 Olympic Student of the Year: eighth grader Ames Black O'Neal.

Ames participated in a NatureBridge program with his seventh grade class from Portland, OR at our Olympic campus in spring 2024. As a self-described "nature nut," Ames was surprised by how much he learned at NatureBridge and how meaningful he found the hands-on, immersive experience to be. As he later reflected, "Learning is so much more impactful when you are surrounded by the subject matter."

At NatureBridge, we celebrate the stewards of today and foster the development of the stewards of tomorrow, working to inspire environmental stewardship in all our participants. Our goal is to motivate our students to make waves and be changemakers in their communities and for our planet.

Each year, NatureBridge honors a student who has demonstrated leadership, growth and a commitment to protecting our natural world as a result of their participation in a NatureBridge program. This year’s honoree will be recognized and will speak at An Evening Outside with NatureBridge on Thursday, May 16 at our Golden Gate campus.

As we approach our event “An Evening Outside with NatureBridge” on May 11, we would like to recognize the runners-up for our annual Student of the Year Award!

We caught up with 2018 NatureBridge Student of the Year, Marisa Granados, an environmental steward and climate activist who is already accomplishing big things.

In late June, our Student of the Year Kinzie Klein was invited to speak at our annual summer board retreat in Yosemite. Read her inspiring words from the weekend.
