Annandale Teacher Night Recap: Hands-On Science for Virginia Classrooms
On Tuesday, October 14, NatureBridge hosted a Teacher Night at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale, VA for a meaningful evening of connection, exploration, and learning with a group of dedicated educators from across Northern Virginia—including teachers from Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County Public Schools, and several local private schools.
The evening began with time to mingle and connect over light refreshments, followed by a presentation introducing NatureBridge’s environmental science programs at Prince William Forest Park. Our team shared how these immersive, field-based experiences help students build science skills, deepen their understanding of ecosystems, and develop a lasting connection to the natural world.
After the presentation, educators moved into the heart of the evening: a series of interactive activity stations led by NatureBridge educator staff that included hands-on stations which gave teachers a chance to experience the types of learning their students would engage in on trail, including using magiscopes to examine natural specimens up close, classifying macroinvertebrates to assess water quality, measuring carbon sequestration in plants and trees, and sorting biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem.
Teachers had time to explore each station, ask questions, and consider how these activities align with their own curriculum goals. The stations sparked great conversations about making science come alive for students and how a NatureBridge program could support both academic and social-emotional learning outcomes.
We’re so grateful to the educators who joined us and brought their curiosity and enthusiasm to the evening. Events like this strengthen our connection to local classrooms and help ensure more students across Virginia have access to powerful, place-based learning experiences in the outdoors.

Our East Bay Teacher Night, hosted by NatureBridge and our friends at Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, was a wonderful opportunity to connect with passionate educators and share the transformative power of outdoor education. We were thrilled to welcome teachers and community members from the East Bay who joined us to learn how a NatureBridge program in Yosemite National Park and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area can spark curiosity, inspire critical thinking, and foster a deep connection to the natural world.
