Olympic Student of the Year

Combined Shape Copy Created with Sketch.

Each year, NatureBridge recognizes an upper-level student (currently in eighth grade or above) who can thoughtfully reflect on their experience and clearly articulate how and why their time with NatureBridge at our Olympic campus has had a meaningful impact on their life.

Do you know a young person whose time at NatureBridge sparked meaningful transformation? Or maybe you are that student—someone whose connection with nature, leadership, or self-confidence was forever shaped by the experience. Apply today!

Nominations are welcome from teachers, students, parents, and NatureBridge staff.

Submissions due by August 28, 2026.

What makes a good application? #

We’re interested in understanding how the student’s NatureBridge experience has had a lasting impact beyond their time spent at our Olympic National Park campus. This might include changes in their perspectives, habits, sense of self, relationships with peers, connection to nature, or future aspirations.

Applicants are required to answer each of the following questions:

  • How did the experience shape or change you and why?
  • What made the experience meaningful or powerful for you?
  • What do you do differently now as a result of your time at NatureBridge?
  • How have you shared what you learned at NatureBridge with others?

The Olympic Student of the Year receives: #

  • An all-expenses-paid trip (transportation costs to and from Seattle, hotel accommodations in Seattle, and meals during the trip) for the selected student and up to two parents or guardians to attend NatureBridge's annual Evening on the Lake gala on November 6, 2026
  • A $1,000 credit toward the student's school's next environmental science program at NatureBridge's Olympic campus
  • Recognition across NatureBridge's website, social media, and other communications channels

The Role of the Olympic Student of the Year #

As a featured speaker at NatureBridge’s largest fundraising event in Seattle, Evening on the Lake, the selected student will deliver a four to five minute-long original speech to an audience of approximately 300 donors, sponsors, board members, and special guests.

The Olympic Student of the Year plays a central role during the main stage gala program by sharing about the lasting impact of their NatureBridge experience. Their speech highlights how their time in our programs has shaped them well beyond their days on campus and inspires audience members to commit to supporting NatureBridge’s fundraising efforts.

In addition, the Olympic Student of the Year will be recognized across several of NatureBridge’s communication and marketing channels, with their story, photos, and biography featured in event promotions and broader organizational communications.

Note: Excerpts from written essay submissions may be shared by NatureBridge for educational and promotional purposes. Last names or images will not be included.

Are there any other requirements? #

  • The student application requires both a written essay and a short video submission for consideration. The selected student will be asked to provide a brief personal biography for use in event materials and on NatureBridge’s website.
  • They will also prepare a four to five minute-long speech to be delivered at the gala. While the NatureBridge team will offer guidance and support, the speech will be written by the student themselves.
  • The selected student must be available for two virtual meetings in advance of the event and be able to meet all deadlines for submitting and revising their speech.
  • The student and up to two parents or guardians must be able to attend Evening on the Lake in Seattle, WA on Friday, November 6, 2026. For those traveling from outside the greater Seattle area, arrival on Thursday, November 5, 2026 is required.
