Prince William Forest Campus Custodian

The Campus Custodian is responsible for routine cleaning of NatureBridge buildings in Prince William Forest Park. This person will report to the Operations Manager.

The scheduled work days for this position will be Monday through Friday, daily hours may vary, 32-40 hours/week. The Campus Custodian is required to work overtime or weekday evenings as requested by the Operations Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include working with the Facilities Department to accomplish the goals and objectives of the position. Duties will include:

  • Maintain campus cleanliness. Perform custodial duties as required to meet the needs of the department. This includes the cleaning of bathroom and cabin facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance on buildings and grounds.
  • Report janitorial supply needs to the Operations Manager.
  • Recognize and report maintenance needs in and around buildings.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly supply and storage area.
  • Promote a sense of support and team effort.
  • Recognize the historic character and value of campus while performing work assignments and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation:

  • $16.50/hr
  • All employees accrue paid sick leave
  • Housing may be provided as a benefit of employment.

 

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in order to best utilize the hours in the day to complete all required cleaning and maintenance.
  • Proficient in storage and application of all equipment and products used for janitorial duties. 
  • Ability to work well with other NatureBridge staff, Park Service employees, other Park Partners, program participants, and visiting public. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues in both written and verbal formats
  • Promptness and ability to work independently. 
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible, positive attitude, good judgment, and safety consciousness are key qualities.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more).
  • Current driver's license and clean driving record.
  • All new hires are required to complete and pass a Department of Justice fingerprinting through Live Scan.

Working Conditions 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The operation of mechanical equipment, frequent use of ladders to access high places, exposure to chemicals used in cleansing products is required on a regular basis.
