Facilities Assistant

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for executing routine, emergency and seasonal maintenance and janitorial duties of the Yosemite NatureBridge campus, offices, housing, vehicles and grounds.  Secondary responsibilities include working closely with the Facilities Team to identify, develop and execute projects to improve Yosemite NatureBridge facilities. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities #

 

  • Able to perform, with limited supervision, the routine and emergency maintenance of Yosemite NatureBridge’s vehicles, student campus, offices, residences, grounds and the Merced Grove cabin.
    • Perform annual housing preventive maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC repairs, household equipment and exclusion work where a respirator may be required.
    • Remove snow from the student campus and maintain snow blowers.
    • Check email, help desk tickets and voice mails for service calls.
  • Perform routine cleaning and custodial maintenance of Yosemite NatureBridge vehicles, student campus, offices, residences, grounds and the Merced Grove cabin.
    • Clean and disinfect campus bathrooms and dorms, car washing and raking leaves.
    • Haul, split, deliver and stack firewood for Yosemite NatureBridge campus, offices, residences and the Merced Grove cabin.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work environment (work sites, shops, trucks, and storage areas). 
    • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment and supplies. 
    • Keep tools in good working order.
    • Clean work area at the end of a service call.
  • Establish and maintain respectful, supportive and compassionate relationships with staff, volunteers and participants.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Experience, Competencies and Education  #

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in maintaining buildings and grounds and/or related experience. 
  • Basic technical skills in the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and painting. 
  • Able to work well with other Yosemite NatureBridge staff, Park Service employees, program participants and visiting public.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • A flexible, positive attitude, excellent judgment and safety consciousness.
  • Promptness and ability to work independently are imperative.
  • Current driver's license and clear driving record required.

Working Conditions 

While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor extreme weather condition; such as high and low temperatures and rain and snow. There will be some after hour’s work and some weekends are required. The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment during work duties with exposure to risk such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators and hard hat. The Facilities Assistant will work at heights such as ladders or roofs and will have exposure to chemicals.
