Golden Gate Campus Director

The Golden Gate Campus Director (CD) is responsible for the leadership and management of NatureBridge’s Golden Gate Campus. The CD is responsible for the delivery of multi-day, overnight environmental science education and other revenue generation programs on site. The CD also represents NatureBridge and the campus with partners, funders and key stakeholders. The CD will lead the campus leadership team and collaborate and coordinate with National office functions and campus staff to help ensure efficient, safe and high quality participant and staff experiences. Staffing was reduced due to COVID-19, however is expected to grow over time as schools and students return to programs. As staffing stabilizes, the CD will oversee the campus’s annual budget of approximately $4.5M, supervise 20 staff, and partner with a 20-member regional board. The CD will advance NatureBridge’s vision, mission, and goals and uphold the beliefs and values that underpin campus culture.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities #

Campus Leadership and General Administration 

  • Provide leadership for the campus and staff; serve as overall point person for the campus 
  • Represent NatureBridge as the voice and face of the campus 
  • Ensure campus operations for customer service, efficiency, effectiveness, safety and quality in program delivery 
  • Lead the campus leadership team; coordinate and collaborate on needs, responsibilities and communications for programs, campus and staff
  • Ensure the NatureBridge purpose, mission and values are emulated, and drive campus operations and experience
  • Lead, manage and grow a positive campus culture and staff working relationships 
  • Support National Sales, Education and Development leads to offer feedback and support to their representative campus staff
  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the National Park Service as well as supporting agencies and partners
  • Manage and monitor assigned campus budget line items and operating plan; provide input and develop assumptions on campus budget line items as needed   
  • Oversee and manage campus capital improvement projects including coordination with NPS and other partners, vendors and staff as needed
  • Drive, coordinate and oversee implementation of significant capital projects, including campus expansion project (e.g. student dorm renovation, Climate Science Laboratory, kitchen expansion) 
  • Manage and monitor National Park Cooperative Agreement including development and renewal, compliance and reporting and project management
  • Lead and oversee local/community programs and Coastal Camp including sales and marketing, risk management, operations and education program delivery
  • Provide strategic thought partnership as part of the senior leadership team
  • Partner with NatureBridge senior staff, as well as the local staff and Regional Board
  • Participate in developing organization-wide policy; practice and support organization initiatives as needed
  • Execute and implement policies developed by the NatureBridge senior staff and NatureBridge Board
  • Any other duties as assigned

Program Delivery

  • Provide support and coordination as needed for campus systems including Salesforce, CRM, and online registration
  • Oversee and be accountable for campus program delivery expense budgets 
  • Work with NPS partners to determine program delivery needs including facilities, staff housing, facilities maintenance and emergency needs 
  • Oversee program operations including purchasing, vendor management, asset management, communications and customer service 
  • Oversee and ensure sufficient staff housing including procurement and management of housing properties, implementation of housing policies and requirements, etc. 
  • Serve as campus administrative, HR and risk management representative
  • Ensure efficient and effective campus opening and closing each program season
  • Oversee risk management on campus in partnership with Risk Management and Human Resources; monitor and implement risk management protocols
  • Serve as key member of Campus Emergency Response Team to lead and manage response to emergencies and urgent situations on site  
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Organizational Support and Collaboration

  • In partnership with the Regional Board Chair, the CD provides support and expertise with board books and reports, board meeting logistics and presentations to help ensure successful board meetings that include relevant operational and organizational topics impacting the campus
  • Support Development, Advocacy and Partnership efforts including campus visits, events, and other meetings and fundraising efforts
  • Coordinate with the Development team to accurately and efficiently develop, track and administer grants
  • Lead collaboration, provide accountability and support for: 
    - Education and program leadership and staff to help ensure program quality and smooth operations
    - Sales efforts in collaboration with the campus sales staff and the National Sales Director, to monitor revenue trends and goals
    - Finance efforts for compliance and reporting, budget management and development and policy implementation 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the campus Operations, Facilities and Food Service teams and the Coastal Camp Director

Qualifications #

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in a related field such as education, business or public administration 
  • Strong leadership and management experience and ability; previous experience leading and developing teams and individuals across multi-functional areas, with dotted line reporting structures
  • Strong team player with excellent ability to work with individuals of all backgrounds and skills to achieve collaboration and coordination
  • Proven project management skills; highly detail-oriented with excellent planning and execution ability and multi-tasking skills
  • Financial and budget management skills and experience
