SAN FRANCISCO, September 12, 2023 — This week, NatureBridge announced a call for innovative and thoughtful board members to build the organization’s future. The new board members will help guide NatureBridge in the execution of its mission to connect young people to the wonder and science of the natural world.
NatureBridge has ignited self-discovery and inspired stewardship of the planet within its students for over 50 years. Working in partnership with the National Park Service, NatureBridge runs programs for young people in national park classrooms at Yosemite National Park and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California, Olympic National Park in Washington and Prince William Forest Park in Virginia that serve over 30,000 students annually. Through these outdoor experiences, NatureBridge builds leaders who, in turn, inspire impact through the ability to navigate life’s challenges.
As the largest educational partner of the National Park Service, NatureBridge seeks leaders with diverse perspectives, a belief in the power of outdoor education, and the ambition to redefine “business as usual” for the organization and the field at large.
“This search is an opportunity for us to bring new and bold voices into our already remarkable board of directors with a positive, supportive culture,” says Sam Boren, NatureBridge Board Chair and chair of the search committee. “If you want to help NatureBridge achieve new summits, where more young people can connect with themselves and their peers through outdoor experiences, join us!”
The NatureBridge board of directors provides high-level guidance and decision making on reaching new and changing student populations, building key partnerships, and mindfully engaging in equity, inclusion, and diversity efforts. Confronting challenges requires innovative thinking, and new board members will help to address issues related to pandemic recovery, increasing access to the outdoors, the impacts of climate change on programs, and strategic approaches to staffing and organizational infrastructure.
“This process will allow us to embrace new perspectives, and we hope to recruit individuals with both professional and lived experience,” says Philip Kilbridge, President and CEO. “We want to emphasize that previous nonprofit board or outdoor education experience is not required to play an essential role in leading NatureBridge.”
NatureBridge has retained Potrero Group, a national strategy and search firm, for this search. While many nonprofits recruit board members through their own personal networks, Potrero Group believes an open board search is a critical opportunity for organizations to expand their network, raise their visibility, and multiply their impact.
Information about the position and how to apply can be found online on the Potrero Group website. Interested candidates should apply by October 20, 2023, for priority consideration.
