Xiuhtezcatl Martinez is a 17-year-old indigenous climate activist, hip-hop artist, author, and powerful voice on the front lines of a global youth-led environmental movement.

Xiuhtezcatl was raised in the Aztec tradition. As Xiuhtezcatl began to learn about the global environmental crisis, he took action. He has worked with community leaders in his hometown of Boulder, Colorado, and has collaborated with over 50 environmental organizations to make positive changes in his community.

His actions have inspired youth to combat some of the greatest issues of our times. As Youth Director of Earth Guardians, Xiuhtezcatl has helped grow the movement to hundreds of youth-led crews in over 30 countries. His work has been featured on PBS, Showtime, Rolling Stone, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Real Time with Bill Maher, The Daily Show, CNN, HBO, and many more.

In 2013, Xiuhtezcatl received the United States Community Service Award from President Obama and was the youngest of 24 national change-makers chosen to serve on the President’s Youth Council. He was the 2015 Keynote Speaker at the UN General Assembly High-Level Event on Climate Change.
