Interim Lunch Coordinator

The Interim Lunch Coordinator is based out of the NatureBridge kitchen in El Portal and helps organize and coordinate trail lunches and backpacking meals for up to 400 student participants each week. This position is also in charge of "the run," transporting interoffice materials between El Portal, Yosemite Valley, and the Crane Flat campus. This position is responsible for making meal substitutions for participants with allergies and dietary restrictions. As needed, the Interim Lunch Coordinator helps prepare for and participate in special Yosemite-based events, as well as supports any sudden changes in logistics. 

This position is full time and temporary for roughly three months from mid-December 2019 through February 2020. It is paid hourly. Benefits and housing are not included.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities #

Prepare and pack daily lunches for up to 30 hiking groups consisting of approximately 400 students and adult chaperones each week. Support and pack meals for NatureBridge overnight backpacking programs. Examples include:

  • Prepare trail group lunches and backpacking food, ensuring that adequate food is provided for each hiking group. 
  • Properly label, date and store meal items.
  • Read and understand meal counts, allergies and location of groups.
  • Weigh, label and package bulk Items.
  • As needed, provide supply of food for in-camp chaperones that do not assist trail groups.
  • Know ingredients of lunch products and make careful lunch substitutions for individual participants based on allergy and meal restrictions.

Maintain a safe and clean work environment to meet U.S. Public Health Standards. Examples include:

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning logs.
  • Keep refrigeration temperature logs, sanitation logs and vector logs.
  • Be well groomed and exhibit a high standard of personal, as well as professional cleanliness.

Take inventory. Examples include:

  • Receive, inspect and rotate stock.
  • Conduct weekly inventory as needed for the Food Service Manager.

Courier lunches and interoffice supplies to Yosemite NatureBridge facilities. Examples include:

  • Deliver lunches, as needed, to Curry Village.
  • Drive and deliver interoffice supplies between campus locations.

All other duties assigned by Supervisor.
 

Experience, Competencies & Education #

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Qualifications include:

  • Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing quality institutional meals for groups.
  • Can perform and complete assigned tasks.
  • Detail oriented, self-starter and can work independently.
  • Exhibit a professional and a cooperative, friendly, flexible attitude.
  • Work and communicate effectively with others, especially under stress.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (60lbs.).
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Must hold or obtain within 30 days a California Food Handlers Permit.
     

Working Conditions & Physical Demands #

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outdoor extreme weather conditions, such as rain and snow. There will be some after hours and weekend work required. Personal protective equipment will be required during work duties with exposure to risk. Will have exposure to kitchen chemicals.
