Coastal Camp Mentor Teacher

Coastal Camp at NatureBridge is a summer day camp designed to combine marine and coastal ecology themes with hands-on educational activities and games, providing exciting opportunities for discovery in the great outdoors. As an integral member of the Camp Administrative Team, the Camp Mentor Teacher supervises educators, oversees curriculum and assists with program operations and staff logistics for Coastal Camp. The role is a full-time, seasonal position beginning May  3, 2021. This position is expected to run 15 or 16 weeks, but the ability to offer programs depends on state and county Covid-19 restrictions, so we are unable to guarantee a minimum number of work weeks. The end date will be no later than August 20, 2021.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities #

  • Supervise 10-12 education staff 
  • Co-lead staff training
  • Inventory, order and maintain camp and educator supplies
  • Organize and update curriculum and camp materials
  • Respond on radio for staff and camper concerns
  • Plan staff events and appreciations 
  • Support campers and staff experiencing difficulties

Experience, Competencies & Education #

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years related experience in summer camp or experiential education; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to implement and model excellent risk management practices
  • Experience or training in equity and inclusion work
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification before beginning employment 
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with NatureBridge and/or Coastal Camp
  • Experience training and supervising staff
  • Experience developing environmental science curriculum
  • Experience working with currently and historically marginalized groups 
  • Involvement in community service projects and volunteer projects
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Experience with creating social media content

Working Conditions & Physical Demands #

This job operates both in a professional office environment and in an outdoor setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to regularly stand; walk up to 7 miles on uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Compensation #

  • $16.25 per hour
  • Housing in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area
