NatureBridge invites 3rd to 12th grade students to learn and explore environmental science in our reimagined virtual classroom. Guided by skilled NatureBridge educators, students will participate in interactive, synchronous, sessions that connect them to national parks and the natural world in their own community.

Meet the 2021 Distance Learning Team #

Amy (she/her/hers) has been with NatureBridge in Yosemite since September 2019. She is originally from the Bay Area and spent much of her childhood in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada outside of Yosemite with family. Amy has a bachelor's degree from Colby College in Waterville, Maine where she doubled majored in Biology and Environmental Science with a focus on Ecology & Conservation Biology. She has previously worked in water quality research and community engagement. Her passion lies in hands-on community science projects and working with students to build connections to the people and places around them. Since August 2020 she has been working on the Distance Learning Team at NatureBridge to develop and teach programs that continue to connect students to the world around them.
Yi-Chuan studied Cell/Molecular Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans, where the intoxicating scent of magnolia and the funky sounds of brass bands are ever-present. He completed a Master’s Thesis on the distribution of mud fiddler crabs and their relationship with various salt marsh vegetation along the central Long Island Sound. He is also a certified high school/middle school Biology teacher in the state of Connecticut; although he has little desire to return to the classroom in the near future. He has been working in the field of environmental education for over eight years, while exploring and learning in the temperate rain forest of Washington State, the Great Northwoods of western Maine, and here in the Headlands.
Sam became an educator with NatureBridge in September 2021. She is from North Carolina and holds a BA in History and Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master's in Teaching from North Carolina State University. She has previously worked in an elementary school as a garden teacher and in a middle school as a social studies teacher. When she isn't teaching, you might find her reading a book, taking care of plants, drinking a cup of coffee, or enjoying the outdoors.
Lilly hails from Madison, Wi, and graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota where she majored in Geology. A paleontology internship at Point Reyes National Seashore originally brought Lilly out to California where she fell in love with the dynamic NorCal coastline. She spent 7 years on and off living in the Bay Area at positions within local museums (UC-Berkley Museum of Paleontology, Bay Area Discovery Museum & the California Academy of Sciences) where she worked on climate science by examining the past through marine fossils and on STEM outreach. Lilly headed down to the bayous of Mississippi to pursue a master's degree in Marine Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her master's research involved investigating patterns of ancient tsunamis along the Sumatran coastline in Indonesia by using microfossils that were deposited onshore during Paleotsunamis. After the completion of her master's degree, Lilly joined the NatureBridge team at the Marin Headlands campus where she enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for the natural world with students all over the US. In her spare time, Lilly loves sailing, surfing, mountain biking, salsa dancing, and making salsa.
Lise started working for NatureBridgein 2020 as an Environmental Science Educator. Hailing from Vienna, Austria, Lise has been leading youth for over six years both in the United States and Japan. Lise holds a BA in Adventure Education from Prescott College and recently completed her California Naturalist Certification at Columbia College. Lise hopes to gain more experience teaching both on trail and virtually this fall. Her goals are to share her passion, care, and knowledge of environmental education with students all over the world. When Lise isn't out leading and teaching kids, you might find her kayaking in the San Fransisco Bay, biking through the city, drawing, or hiking in the Sierras

Rates and Availability

Each of our program options cost $375 and includes:

  • Three 50 to 60 minute synchronous sessions led by NatureBridge educators.
  • Sessions delivered to 3rd through 6th grade classrooms with up to 35 students.
  • Support for pre-program planning.

Distance Learning programs are offered September 20 through November 24, 2021.
