Susan Boren

"Nature builds confidence in young people, particularly urban children. When they spend a week in nature—it gives them so much confidence and builds respect for the environment."

Susan Boren first experienced the power of nature as a Girl Scout in the 1950s. She loved going camping, and Girl Scouting was one of the few opportunities that she had to spend time in nature as a young person. As a parent, Susan shared her love of nature with her children as they explored the natural world, from the Minnesota Boundary Waters to the Arctic Circle to eastern Africa.

A strong believer in the unique impact of a national park experience, Susan is committed to helping NatureBridge reach more children with the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in national parks.

As a board member and consultant at Spencer Stuart, Susan assists organizations in managing and growing their boards of directors. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Susan was president of her own consulting company, where she advised CEOs and boards of directors in the areas of leadership and governance. Susan was a senior executive with Target Corporation. Prior to her consulting and retailing careers, Susan worked in manufacturing and banking.

In addition to NatureBridge, Susan is a founding board member of Dorobo Fund for Tanzania and a lifetime board member of Minnesota Public Radio.

Susan has a Bachelor’s degree from Antioch College and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Dayton. She lives in Minneapolis.
