W. Andrew Marcus, Ph.D.

W. Andrew Marcus is professor and head of the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon. His areas of expertise are geographic education, human impacts in rivers, the Yellowstone region, and the use of satellite and aerial imagery to map and study landscapes. He served as a Vice Chair of the NatureBridge Board (1995-2006) during which he chaired the Education Committee for 10 years. He also was a founding board member and chairman of the board of the Central Asia Institute (2002-2004), which works with communities in remote areas of Afghanistan and northern Pakistan to build, staff, and run schools.

Andrew holds a B.S. in geography from Stanford University and an M.A. in geography from Arizona State University. He also holds a Ph.D. in geology the University of Colorado.
