STUDENTS from throughout the Peel region travelled overseas with NatureBridge scholarships from the Alcoa Foundation.

Mandurah Catholic College students Holly Snell and Reegan Davis, Pinjarra Senior High School student Gabrielle Rotairo, Austin Cove Baptist College student Scott Haggerty and Foundation Christian College student Bethanie Woodward explored Yosemite National Park in the US.

The local students joined 36 other students from Brazil, Canada, Hungary, Iceland, Spain and the United States.

The students worked together in groups to explore the themes of climate change and biodiversity through scientific investigations.

Holly said she learned a lot about the environment and how climate change is a very real issue in today’s world.

“I learnt ways that we can all reduce our impact on Earth and preserve our natural bushland,” she said.

“I hope to make a change by sharing these strategies with my family and friends and being an example for younger kids.”
